Filipino language

Well we've learned our first Filipino phrase: "Bahala-na - which means what will be will be - their version of acuna matata (from Lion King - don't know how to spell it). That will probablly be our mandra - bahala-na!!!

So you ARE going to have to learn the language? For some reason I thought you wouldn't and that you would still be able to speak English. I guess that was kind of short-sighted for me to think that. So good luck on learning Filipino. By the way: Why is it "The Philipines" but the language is "Filipino"?

We are not sure yet if we have to learn any languages but we got a book on the Philippines and it has a few phrases. There are 77 languages there. English is the main language but in Manilla they speak Tagalog and Filippino. I've seen it spelled with the PH and with the F - don't know if it makes any difference.
The MTC will ahve missionaries from all over SE Asia so we will encounter many languages - I'm thinking our own version of sign language.
